SSGs: Basketball Decision Making

More and more coaches are becoming aware of how important the skill of decision making is becoming. Teaching players WHEN to shoot, drive, or pass is more important than WHAT offense your team will run. Not matter what your run the goal is the same... get great shots. As much as coaches want to feel in control, in reality, most of the game will be played within unscripted moments. Decision making in these free-flowing moments can take your team to the next level by finding big advantage shots on their own.

Concentrating on decision making in practice is a great start. But, just as important is developing the skills needed to excel in basketball decision making. Those skills are vision, balance, starts, stops, finishing, shot preparation, passing and catching. A gap should not exist between drills and skill development. Those two areas should be clearly aligned.

Here is a preview of SSGs we use in practice to apply skills and build decision making.
